Blakey is remembered as one of the greatest drummers and
combo leaders in the history of jazz.
His
style was energetic and exhilarating inducing other soloists
to exert themselves to the full. There were no passengers
when playing with this man. Many generations of young
jazz musicians did their apprenticeship in Blakey's bands,
then left to form their own groups, leaving the maestro
to educate yet another batch of keen musicians.
