Alongside The Beatles and Elvis Presley probably no other artist has globally changed the shape of musical tastes to such an enormous degree as Frank Sinatra. In their way each artist influenced each other, Presley bringing in a new wave from Sinatra, and The Beatles bringing in a new wave for Presley. Whichever way it is, Sinatra is popular musics greatest early exponent, and his popularity is still there in every sense of the word even today. Sinatra began to sing wherever people would let him, working locally in clubs and bars, eventually entering himself in a popular U.S. talent show on radio called Major Bowes Amateur Hour. He teamed up for this show with 3 other dudes and called themselves The Hoboken Four and winning 1st prize. The result of this was a lot of concerts, club dates and radio broadcasts, which gave Frank much needed exposure. Among the bands he performed with was one led by the great songwriter, Harold Arlen. In 1940 Sinatra was approached by Tommy Dorsey and joined the band for a very successful period achieving many hit records, and when America entered the war Sinatra along with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra had huge successes and a massive following. Halfway through his contract with Dorsey, Sinatra wanted to go his own way in the form of a solo career and after a much publicised and controversial split with Dorsey, it was a brilliant move. Within a very short time Sinatra had become the idol of hordes of screaming teenage girls and his live performances were sell-outs, and frankly they could not keep up with the demand for his record sales at this stage. After his success with Hit Film From Here To Eternity, he made a huge comeback with his musical career, first with Columbia, and then with Capitol Records in 1953, teaming up with the great Nelson Riddle and songwriters, more popular hits followed such as Strangers In The Night and My Way and some still fabulous albums. There are so many songs associated with Frank Sinatra, that apart from his own unique and full vibrant voice, he has also always been able to pick and sing a good tune from the many talented songwriters he worked with in his career, and with his great singing ability he is never too far away from any good songwriters careers intentions. Always a controversial person in the eyes of the media, mainly due to his Sicilian descent, but without doubt the best popular singer the world has yet seen. Sadly, Frank Sinatra died in Los Angeles on the 14th of May 1998 but left behind a musical legacy that will remain in our hearts and minds for the rest of our lives. Many of Franks most popular and successful tracks can be heard on this fabulous Double Vinyl album, which have been Remastered and enhanced and sound better than ever before! This album truly is a must have for any Frank Sinatra and music fan.
