All The Hits Plus More - The Three Degrees
Details:
This Philadelphia based trio consisting originally of Fayette Pinkney, Shirley Porter and Linda Turner, first kicked into the charts in 1965 with “Gee Baby (I’m Sorry)”, in the USA. They were protégées of songwriter/producer Richard Barrett.
1966 saw a follow up success with “Look Into My Eyes” in the USA, but nothing much else happened until 1970 when they revamped the Chantels great standard “Maybe”, and Valerie Holiday and Sheila Ferguson replaced Turner and Porter.
Their worldwide appeal and success came when they signed to the great soul label, Philadelphia International Records.
They teamed up with MFSB to share vocals on the track “The Sound Of Philadelphia (TSOP)”, which was a TV theme tune, from the highly successful “Soul Train” show in the States.
1974 saw the hits “Year Of Decision” and “When Will I See You Again”, when the band became especially popular in the United Kingdom, with these highly polished performances, followed by “Take Good Care Of Yourself” in 1975 and “My Simple Heart” in 1979.
Later in 1979, the group signed to Ariola Records, with whom they remained until the mid 1980s.
A minor hit, “The Heaven I Need”, was released in 1985 on the Supreme Records label.
The Three Degrees became King Charles’ favourite band as they continued to give their great live performances through the 1980s and 1990s.
This album of excellent quality re-recordings spans their entire career.
